The Cove - Seaside

The Cove is located at the edge of Seaside, where the flat terrain begins to wind upwards to the top of Tillamook Head. It's the surf spot, where you can find any number of surfers in any season of the year. Cedar-shingled vacation homes line the street, facing the ocean. I met The Cove on a gloomy Winter day and it was perfect. It bears a striking resemblance to the beaches on the southwest portion of the Big Island where I grew up, gray skies and all.

HUG POINT

Hug Point is more of a beach walk than a hike, but it's stunning, nonetheless. There are caves to explore, waterfalls, and cool path over the rocks that you can only access at low tide. I went out there for the first time in early September, so the falls were fairly dry. It was a warm Fall day with little rain.

Ecola State Park sits on the south end of Tillamook Head. It's the forest-looking section when you're driving between Cannon Beach and Seaside. The entrance to the park is actually right off the Cannon Beach off-ramp when you're headed into town from the north end. If you're traveling from Astoria, like I was, it's about a 30-minute drive.
